Forget the cuddly teddy bear and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. Although everyone has the Disney version of these charming characters created by AA Milne in their heads, with the 96th anniversary of his creation Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain. Rhys Waterfield has not wasted time and has directed ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’, a horror film in which the protagonists better have honey to reassure the bear. Here you have its first trailer.
In ‘Blood and Honey’, Winnie the Pooh has been abandoned by Christopher Robin when the boy leaves for college. Far from carrying on with his life, the bear teams up with his faithful friend Piglet to set off in search of Christopher… to hunt him down. And if they kill a few more along the way, all the better.
Behind the disturbing new versions of Pooh and Piglet are Craig David Dowsett and Chris Cordell, while Nikolai Leon plays Christopher Robin. Rhys Waterfield also signs the script for this slasher that still does not have a release date in our country.
What does Disney have to say about all this?
Although anyone can now use Winnie the Pooh in their creations, those with the mouse are going to keep an eye out so that no one tramples on one of their most successful characters. Thus, films like ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’ can use the bear, but not the most characteristic elements of the Disney version like his red shirt. They also cannot use other characters from the AA Milne book saga that were created later because they remain protected by copyright law until 95 years after their first appearance. But with Pooh and Piglet it is enough to mess it up very brown.
